ELECTRICITY PYLON (REGINALD BLOMFIELD 1928)
CONFORMATIVO RAZIONALE ARCHITETTONICO / ARCHETYPAL 揃 FORMAL
The most enduring symbol of British design from the period
Designed by engineers from the american company Milliken Brothers and tweaked for British taste by architect sir Reginald Blomfield, electricity pylons were designed to waft entirely through the land, bringing the benefits of alternating current to homes everywhere. Loved and blamed at the time, they left an unmistakable imprint of modernity on the timeless British countryside. Today they have achieved one of the prime objectives of all successful design: near invisibility.
PAPERCLIP (JOHAN VALEER 1899)
CONFORMATIVO RAZIONALE / ARCHETYPAL
One of those low-tech inventions that support the clich辿 that the simplest ideas are often the best
Todays paperclip has been honed to the optimum dimensions: a lenght of steel wire 9.85cm long and 0.08cm in diameter prodives just the right tension of firmness and give. It is the work of Johan Valeer, a Norwegian inventor, who developed the clip in 1899.
SHEEP SHEARS (BURGON & BALL 1730)
CONFORMATIVO / ARCHETYPAL 揃 FUNCTIONAL
Functionality, truth to materials and production methods and an eligence to the present
The mechanism of the shears allows the user to put the hand right over the blades, concentrating all the energy into the cut. Maximum possible cutting control, plus maximum energy efficiency, says Burgon & Ball of Sheffield, established in 1730 and one of the largest sheep shears manufacturers in the world. Today the company produces over sixty different patterns, but its bestseller remains the Red Drummer Boy, which is noticeable for its peculiar double-bow pattern and red painted handles.
DESKTOP EVERYWHERE (STEFANO CIRI 2014)
The helicopter pad of your fundamental objects
Desktop Everywhere is your space, namely the space for the appendices of your body that you need to keep out of it.
Telephone, keys, wallet
notebook, knife, headphones
camera, hat, glasses
there are some things that are part of our daily life and that push us ahead, even though they are not ours nor been designed by us. Possessing them forms part of our identity, so that their simple presence can become the symbol for ours.
Desktop Everywhere is the landing ramp of your fundamental objects, as well as the base that helps us to get free from them for a moment and be ourselves.
Lawn, step, windowsill, edge of the precipice:
your space is estabilished by an hexagon of natural cork 20 centimeters wide and 5 millimiters tall, which means getting the most of the area covered with the least possible perymeter and material, for a composable shape easily obtainable from a single layer of corks beautiful bark.
As the ancient Greeks suspected, Marcus Terentius Varro claimed in 36 B.C., bee lovers have always knew and as Charles Darwin himself once wrote referring to honeycombs, the hexagon is a masterpiece of engineering. It is absolutely perfect in economizing labor and material.
You can imitate Desktop Everywhere and do it better, and the same can be done by the richer and by the poorer. On the product can be pyrographed your name, or better nothing.
