Young people today are greatly influenced by social media and spend increasing amounts of time online rather than going out. Social media allows them to connect with friends who share their interests, access global content, and participate in collaborative school projects. While some may become too addicted to technology, each generation faces its own challenges and today's youth do not experience world wars or slavery.

Places to meet then and now
Social media Nowadays youth is greatly influenced by social media. Types of social media: social networking sites (Facebook) blogs/microblogs (Twitter) content communities (Youtube) collaborative projects (Wikipedia) virtual game-world (League of Legends) virtual social worlds (Second Life)
Mobile social media Connection to social media is in almost every persons pocket. Smartphones are becoming more and more popular among young people and some of them already can卒t imagine life without it. Around 5 billion mobile phones in the world. 1,08 billion are smartphones.
Why do young people choose to spend time online more and more rather than to go out somewhere? There is nothing interesting to do in their hometown It is cheaper to spend time in some online game (lots of games are absolutely free) People find friends with same hobbies and interests online faster than in real life Social network is a place where people can show themselves as they like them being seen by other network users.
People gain access to content that is not available on their national television (Korean TV series never seen on Estonian national television) Some media are only available in social networks Many school projects are done through collaborative projects There are people who are not accepted by the society (e.g. they are being bullied, unable to trust people they become lonely and social media is their only connection with world)
Being young nowadays - getting worse? Every generation has its own difficulties and we just have to face them. Our generation have persons who are too addicted to technology and social networks but we have to be thankful that we don卒t have world war going on and in 21st century slavery is almost gone.
