3. What is VACCINE..?
A Vaccine is a substance that is introduced into the
body to stimulate the bodys immune response.
It is given to prevent an infectious disease from
developing and person becoming ill.
6. Types of Vaccine
Live Attenuated Vaccine
Killed (inactive) Vaccine
Mixed OR Combined Vaccine
Recombinant Vaccine
7. Live Attenuated Vaccine
Live vaccine are prepared from Live Organism.
Weakened form of pathogen injected.
In general live vaccine are more potent immunizing
agent than killed vaccine.
Should not be given to the person with immune
deficiency disease or whose immune response may be
suppressed.
8. Killed (Inactive) Vaccine
Killed version of pathogen injected.
They are usually safe.
Useful for the person with immune deficiency
disease or whose immune response may be
suppressed.
9. Mixed OR Combined Vaccine
If more than one kind of
immunizing agent is included in the
vaccine, it is called a mixed OR
combined vaccine.
10. Recombinant vaccine
In these types of vaccine, specific piece of
pathogen is used.
i.e.., Antigen Portion
Useful with the person with immune deficiency
disease or whose immune response may be
suppressed.
