3. Local program
Admission requirements:
1- medical degree.
2- completion of 12 months internship.
3- passing pre-admission Saudi commission exam.
4- Interview by Anesthesia and ICU program.
5- three recommendation letters.
6- letter from a sponsoring organization.
7- Registration as a trainee at the Saudi Commission for
Health Specialties.
4. Local Program
Five year program structured training in Anesthesiology
and Intensive Care.
Divided into 3 years (junior) and 2 years (senior).
The Junior rotations are directed into core anesthesia
and obstetric anesthesia practice.
Senior years are directed into anesthesia sub-specialties.
(Cardiac, Pediatric, Neuro, Thoracic, Pain management)
5. Training starts October.
Residents are requires to satisfactory complete allocated
rotations for a given year and pass end of year evaluation
exam (promotion exam).
Part 1 exam also have to be completed before starting
the senior years.
After the successful completion of all 5 year of training
and passing end of year promotion exam the candidate
will receive (training completion certificate).
The Candidate will be eligible to set the final certification
exam.
6. The application process and the interviews are determined by
the Saudi Commission.
The time usually April-May.
Best hospital to work: to do electives where you potentially
want to work and there is available Jobs.
7. Courses
ACLS
ATLS
PALS
NRB
Plus Anesthesia conferences, locally or internationally.
Anesthesia workshops best place is clinical skills center at
KAU hospital.
8. Sub-Specialty
Can be either done here or out side.
Better to do it out side if you can, easier to get a spot the
residency.
Also the Saudi Commission offer also Fellowship programs
with exams and certification.
After finishing residency you will be working as a specialist.
After three years you can apply for a consultant position.
9. Salary: Depend on the hospital.
Vacation
4 week annual leave
10 days public holidays and ER leave.
1 week academic leave.
On calls Max 8 per month.
10. Outside training
The training spots available for Anesthesia in
Canada is very limited almost none.
Better chance in the USA, but to be careful of the
program.
Other countries, Germany, France, Sweden,
more chance to be accepted.
