Researchers tried to find out the effect of presence of other users who have diverse social roles(authorities) to the first participation of new users in Twitch communities. In this work they analyze 183 million messages scraped from chatrooms on the livestreaming platform Twitch in order to understand differences between first-time participants¨ and regulars¨ behaviors and to identify conditions that encourage first-time participation. They found that presence of diverse types of users increases likelihood of new participation, with effects depending on the size of the community. They also found that information-seeking behaviors in first-time participation are negatively associated with retention in the short and medium term.
This document discusses evidence supporting the Ethiopian tradition that the Ark of the Covenant was brought to Ethiopia in 950 BC by Menelik, son of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. It summarizes the account in the Kebra Nagast, an Ethiopian epic compiled in 1314 AD, which describes how the eldest sons of Solomon's kingdom stole the Ark and fled to Ethiopia with Menelik. It argues this tradition is supported by inscriptions on incense burners in an Ethiopian church, and that the tradition explains discrepancies in archaeological evidence about the location of pre-586 BC Israel described in the Old Testament.
The document provides an overview of the history and development of the Port of Calcutta (now Kolkata) in India. It notes that the port was established in 1700 and emerged as a major trading hub under British rule in the 19th century. The document also describes how the Port of Calcutta played a pivotal role in India's economy as the "One Man Economy" under the stewardship of Sri Ramkrishna Dalmia from the 1930s to 1960s.
Long Walk to Freedom is the autobiography of Nelson Mandela, chronicling his early life in the Transkei, his involvement in the anti-apartheid struggle, and his imprisonment on Robben Island. The book reflects on his journey toward freedom, highlighting themes of resilience and the indomitable human spirit. Mandela celebrates his rich heritage, family influences, and the historical context of his fight against oppression.
This document discusses the proceedings of a conference titled 'Black Athena: Africa's Contribution to Global Systems of Knowledge' held in 1996, focusing on Martin Bernal's works and the debate they initiated about Africa's role in contributing to Western civilization. It emphasizes the importance of recognizing Africa's historical contributions and offers a critical reassessment of the Afrocentric movement in the context of recent scholarship. The collection aims to encourage further discussion and exploration of these themes within Dutch academia and the broader intellectual community.

A letter memories of twenty years ago, in the Amharic language
by ormer Ethiopian Addis Abebe university,
Proffesor Fiqade Shewaqena..
The Hague, Sunday 17 November 2013
1. In the early 20th century, Germany had fewer Ethiopian manuscripts than France or England due to diplomatic missions in 1905 and 1906 aimed at collecting manuscripts for the Royal Library in Berlin.
2. Johannes Flemming led a 1905 mission that purchased 70 manuscripts and 10 scrolls, though he regretted the short duration limited larger acquisitions. The collection included religious texts, though some manuscripts were unknown even to Flemming.
3. Despite visiting many churches, Flemming felt the most important texts were already in other collections, though his mission did double what Germany held and revealed some rare works are part of the collection.
The document summarizes the history of a Tabot, a consecrated wooden altar slab that represents the Ark of the Covenant in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. It describes how a Tabot was looted from Ethiopia in 1868 and ended up in St. John's Church in Edinburgh, where it lay unrecognized for over 100 years. In 2002, the Tabot was returned to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church in a ceremony celebrating the restitution of an important cultural and religious artifact.
The document critiques the identity and regime of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) in Ethiopia, arguing that their actions have been anti-Ethiopian and have led to the country's gradual decline. It outlines a historical narrative of Meles's leadership from 1975 to present, highlighting their prioritization of Tigrayan and Eritrean interests over Ethiopian unity and welfare, resulting in widespread suffering and oppression among diverse Ethiopian populations. The author calls attention to the detrimental impact of the TPLF's policies on Ethiopia's sovereignty, economy, and social fabric, advocating for a recognition of the regime's failures and its toxic legacy.
The book 'Misekerenet Bebale Seltanatu Andebet' by Captain Tesfaye Riste provides an in-depth and personal account of the dergue regime in Ethiopia, featuring extensive interviews with former high-ranking officials. It highlights the regime's transformation into a radical Marxist government, the power struggles within, and the tragic consequences of political decisions that led to Ethiopia's military failures. The author presents a balanced view, capturing confessions from former officials about their roles while addressing the various political dynamics that contributed to the regime's downfall.
This document is a dissertation by Aregawi Berhe detailing the political history of the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) from 1975 to 1991. It explores the insurgent movement's origins, ideological development, and its role in shaping contemporary Ethiopian politics through ethnic mobilization and armed resistance. The study also addresses broader sociological issues regarding political conflict and inequality in a multi-ethnic society.
The document discusses the Ark of the Covenant from the Old Testament, describing it as the most important object in Israel's history as it represented God's presence among his people. It provides 30 parallels between attributes of the Ark and attributes of Jesus Christ, such as both being anointed and leading God's people. It also lists other facts about the Ark's construction, measurements, and role in Israelite worship before God's presence departed from it due to their sins.

This document is a thesis submitted by Blen Fitsum to Addis Ababa University in partial fulfillment of a master's degree in journalism. It examines the Ethiopian government's management of the media during the Ethio-Eritrean War from 1998 to 2000. Chapter 1 provides an overview of Ethiopia's media landscape and a background on the war. It establishes the research problem, questions, and objectives. Chapter 2 will review literature on media roles during war and techniques of media management and control. Chapter 3 describes the study's methodology, including data collection and sampling. Chapters 4 and 5 will present and analyze data on how the government managed information sources, access, censorship, patriotism, and the media

Among the people of the oppressed nationalities, those who actually suffer are mainly the
oppressed and exploted classes, the workers, peasants and other labouring classes. From this we
can see that national oppression is in reality class oppression, and that the struggle against national
oppression is in reality a struggle against class oppression and often simultaneously a struggle
against the reactionaries and traitors of one¨s own nationality.
