Urban farming techniques being developed at the TU Berlin Institute for Urban and Regional Planning allow farming on buildings without using additional land by taking advantage of rooftop and indoor spaces. Called zero-acreage farming, this strategy creates synergies between buildings and farming through new technologies and networks. Initial results show benefits like improved resource efficiency, innovative food supply systems, new urban spaces, and additional services.
