The document describes TheWhollySee, a startup that has developed a solution using passive photonic tags and cameras to remotely identify and characterize tagged objects and people from a single pixel with high accuracy. The tags encode identifying information in their spectral properties and can also sense temperature and humidity. This allows for contactless identification of multiple objects within a single image. The company seeks funding to develop a technology demonstrator and plans to partner with customers in markets like asset management, inventory, and logistics tracking.

Problem
Machine & computer vision must identify, characterize, and
interpret objects and subjects. While QR/barcodes, and RFID
tags provide excellent low-cost ID solutions for the operating
range up to about 2-3 metres, no reliable solution exists for
remote ID (> 3m away) with high location accuracy.
Image recognition provides excellent location information
with line-of-sight visibility. But it requires that objects be in
sharp focus while offering very limited ID precision.
Conversely, radio-based solutions for remote ID like active
RFID, ZigBee, WiFi, beacons, transponders, and RTLS tags
provide excellent ID precision but poorlocation accuracy (no
directional information). Furthermore, they are high cost,
require a battery, and may cause RF interference.
Solution (patent pending)
Our solution enables real-time, line-of-sight, contactless recognition
and characterization of tagged objects and subjects including their
identity, position, orientation, temperature, and humidity. Our core
technology lies in passive and low-cost photonic-engineered tagging
media that encode information in their spectral properties. Our
product includes a set of tags for ID and/orsensing,custom cameras
to decode them, and software to extract and analyse the tag data.
Competitive Advantage
Our technology differentiates us from optical and radio solutions:
Near focus-free, line-of-sight operation
Minimum 1 pixel to identify an object or subject
Multiple objects identified and characterized within one image
High-speed real-time processing
Market Opportunity
We offer a disruptive technology platform for several
markets, especially asset management, inventory,and
logistics (global TAM $19bn by 2020). Our customers
include warehouses,order fulfilment centres,inventory
holding centres, and sorting / distribution centres.
Opportunities in security, surveillance, personnel ID, sports
analytics, and advertising sectors are also multi-$bn.
Business Model
We perform the integration of both the hardware (tags & cameras)
and software (data analytics & API) components to deliver B2B
solutions to customer applications. We will form a strategic
partnership to develop a complete systemaround a specific
customer application. Our technology is particularly suitable for
Internet of Things applications, where data and analytics can be
offered as a service.
Investment scope
Seeking $2m in seed funding to deliver a technology demonstrator against a 2-year workplan.
Approved for entry into an accelerator program (Technion Technology Transfer in Haifa, Israel), with a $100k funding offer.
