A concentric city model has 5 zones radiating out from the center: 1) The Central Business District is in the center for businesses. 2) The Transition Zone surrounds it and is usually poorer. 3) The Independent Worker Zone has neighborhoods for secondary workers between downtown and factories. 4) The Zone of Better Residences has nicer neighborhoods farther out. 5) The Commuter Zone is where people live outside the city but commute in for work.
