The document discusses the uniqueness of the InfoConnectivity System (ICS), which aims to enhance travel information provision. It notes current shortfalls like inconsistent information across systems and information that does not address traveler needs. This causes stress, uncertainty, and negatively impacts transportation ratings and passenger flow. The ICS seeks to address this by providing situation-based information tailored to traveler needs and impairments. It also aims to continuously improve information quality through an airport stakeholder consortium. Implementing the ICS is expected to raise destination and transportation ratings, optimize passenger flow, and create new revenue opportunities.

Current situation
Investment in the InfoConnectivity System (ICS) should pay off in:
raising flight destination rating
improved rating of transport modes
optimised passenger flow
new revenue possibilities
Due to global competition of flight destinations, new systems to
improve passenger focused travel information should be used
to strengthen European airport regions.

Stressed travellers cant take up information, get resistant to

Uncertainty makes travellers see a transport option as being
more "straining" than it really is. Through this, e.g. public
transport might not be used, or even a flight destination (airport

Uniqueness the ICS
12. May 2014 12Uniqueness of the ICSIIID
Complexity of the travelling task and accompanying
high mental workload and stress requires that:
Information must relate to the currently
experienced situation to make sense and allow for
uptake, understanding, decision and action. This
way, even sudden problems/needs can be handled
by a traveller.

Complexity of the travelling task and accompanying
high mental workload and stress requires that:
The ICS facilitates foresight by giving information on the
upcoming situation to prepare to evade problems, carry
out mandatory processes quickly & with ease.
Information on situations further ahead can be accessed
in (waiting) situations, where mental workload is low.

14. May 2014 14Uniqueness of the ICSIIID
Information is in a constant state of flux.
Therefore, measures have to be taken to:
keep information up to date
assure high quality and relevance
reach consistency in information presentation
adapt to changing traveller groups & traveller needs
adapt to evolving technology
extend/amend the required reach of the ICS
The ICS turns the travellers environment in a constantly
improving and seamless information ecosystem over
time.

Editor's Notes
#12: An old and a new EU member state was chosen, along with a non European country to compare the needs of travellers by country. In addition they were chosen for their differet language and alphabet. Russia, as a country with increasing numbers of travellers coming to Europe was of special interest since these visits already now contribute considerably to incomes of several member states.
