for 2013
Universities have always been actively involved in research, and commercialization of
patents and inventions has helped them generate benefits. Take a look at how universities
fared last year in transferring their patent assignments to govt. agencies vs corp. entities.
Patent Transaction Trends
As compared to 2012, MIT dropped three ranks, while Rochester University and Michigan University
improved their rankings. However, California University has been the most successful in IP
commercialization to both govt. agencies as well as corp. entities.
University rankings
While medicine related patents dominated in both types of transactions, semiconductor and digital data
processing technologies had a small impact in transfers to corp. entities.
A majority of government agency transacted patents was filed in the recent years, whereas a
fair number of transactions executed by corp. entities, was filed in the early 2000s.
