This document provides a usability test script for testing college websites, including 4 task scenarios, post-task questions, and final post-test questions. The scenarios involve finding contact information for disability services, the math department, financial aid office, and applying online. Observers take notes on task completion and a "click stream" of pages visited. Post-task questions rate confidence and ease of completing the task. Final questions gather overall impressions of the site and recommendations for improvement.

1. Usability Test Script
The following is the usability test data collection instrument used for the Cornell
University usability testing research.
These pages can be used as examples to help design tasks and questions to perform
usability testing on your college web site.
Included are:
The four task scenarios
The basic post task questions asked of the test participants
The final questions asked for further feedback
Each scenario includes a Comments & Click stream section designed for the
observers to note information regarding the usability issues encountered by the
testers. The click stream is a series of links, pages or buttons that a user
followed to complete a task. It can be useful in generating a map of how people
navigate the site for a task and can identify common false starts and confusing
navigation.

We will be asking you to navigate two community college web sites and perform some
specific tasks that a prospective college student might do to get information about the
college and apply for admission to the school. We will be asking you to talk out loud
explaining what you are doing as you work to help us understand what you are thinking
about as you perform these tasks. Remember this is not a test of your abilities but rather a
test to see how well the site is designed and how usable it is.
