Shailesh Kumar presents a project on the uses of solar energy. Solar energy comes from the sun and is a renewable source of energy. It can be used to generate electricity, heat water, cook food, charge batteries, and dry foods and clothes. Solar energy systems for electricity production require solar panels to capture the energy, batteries to store it, and an inverter to convert it to alternating current to power appliances. Solar cookers use mirrors to focus sunlight to cook food. Solar water heaters use solar panels and an insulated tank to heat water using sunlight for use over time.
4. What is solar energy ?
Solar energy is the form of energy provided by Sun. The
sun is the biggest natural source of renewable energy
to us. The demand for energy is ever increasing. Many
of our energy sources are derived from the sun. Solar
energy can be trapped from the Sun by solar cells and
be used for many purposes.
5. Uses of Solar energy
? Naturally solar energy is used in the process of photosynthesis
by plants.
? Solar energy can be used for commercial electricity
generation.
? It is used to heat the water.
? Solar energy is used for cooking food.
? Solar energy is used to recharge the battery of small
appliances like calculator , Radio, watches and Street lights.
? It is used to dry fruits ,vegetables, clothes etc.
? It is a source of energy for satellites in the space.
7. Electricity production from Solar energy
For electricity production from solar energy ,we need of following things-
Solar panel ¨C It is the combination of solar cells or phovoltic- cells .It is used to
capture solar energy from Sun.
Solar controller - The solar controller looks after the batteries, preventing them from
being damaged. It does this by ensuring that the battery cannot be over charged
by the solar panel, and ensuring the battery cannot be over discharged by the low
voltage power supply to small appliances.
Battery - The battery stores the power generated by the solar panel until it is
required. The vast majority of small solar electric systems run at 12 volts.
Mains Inverter- Where mains voltage is required, a mains voltage inverter is required
to convert the electrical current from 12 volt direct current (DC) to mains voltage
alternating current (AC). This allows mains voltage appliances to be run from a
solar electric system.
8. Function of Solar electric system
Solar energy is trapped from the Sun by solar panels. This energy is
used to charge the battery . From the battery ,electricity is used to run
the appliances with the help of inverter. With the help of solar
controller small devices like LED bulbs can be run directly.
10. Solar cooker
Solar cooker is a box like device. its space is lined by black sheet here
we keep food material. It is covered by glass sheet. Lid of solar cooker
has a mirror. This mirror help to focus reflected rays of sun-light over
food material kept in the space of box. We can placed solar cooker with
food material inside in sun-light and after some time food is cooked by
heat of sun-light reflected on it by mirror of solar cooker.
12. Solar water heater
Solar water heater system is
used to heat the water by
using heat of sun light. This
system includes Solar
collector and insulated tank.
Solar collector is the
combination of tubes
laminated by solar panel.
Solar collector is supplied by
cold water and this water is
heated by sunlight trapped by
panels .Warm water is sent to
insulated tank and used time
to time whenever required. It
helps us to save electricity.
