1) The document compares the rapid development of COVID-19 vaccines to the long journey towards developing an effective malaria vaccine. 2) It took over 30 years of research to develop the first malaria vaccine, which was recommended by the WHO in 2021 for use in children in regions with moderate to high malaria transmission. 3) In contrast, several safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines were developed in under a year and have been administered to billions of people worldwide since late 2020.
