This portfolio document summarizes Daniel Berti's UX/UI design work over the past 18 months. It includes three projects from a human-computer interaction class in Spring 2014, including Dynamina, a pick-up sports app, and Starland Cafe, a drone food delivery app. It also includes a presentation on feedback and a freelance Holy Week iBook project. The document describes Daniel's design process from research and mockups to final visual design and includes tools used like Fluid UI, Adobe Suite, and user testing methods.
The document discusses different classifications of time related to manufacturing processes:
- Process Order (PO) related downtime can be variable (dependent on quantity produced) or fixed (not dependent on quantity).
- Non-PO related downtime occurs independently of the specific product or process order.
- Other classifications include gross production hours, downtime hours, idle time hours, and efficiency loss hours.
- A decision tree is provided to classify downtime as PO related, non-PO related, fixed or variable based on whether the event is planned and depends on quantity produced.

Have you ever seen an amazing product become stagnant? A great game followed by rubbish sequels? Ever worked on something for 6+ months only to see "meh" reviews and poor metrics? Misunderstanding your customer is the shortest route to self-destruction, and it's becoming easier in a more mature market. Over the years, we've experienced amazing success and periods of crisis and self-reflection. I will share some techniques we've developed that help us maintain focus, stay in touch with the players and convert feedback into design and business decisions.
LA Lakers Companion App - Response For ProposalUlrich Boulon
油
One of the most complex exercise in my field that I experienced when I was junior was the RFP (Response For Proposal). If you work in agency you will probably reach this point where you will have to provide a UX Approach and transform blue sky thinkings and unrealistic expectations into a plausible, feasible and/ realistic concept. Well! Hopefully most of the agencies has analytics, users researcher, strategic planner and more.
But, let assume you are freelancer on your own with as skills, you incredible flair, favorite wires tool and a solid UX understanding to help you out.
On my down time I had spent 2 sleepless nights to try an exercise that I've been scared about since my last year in master degree. Therefore, I chose LA Lakers App which I heard would like to give a new UX philosophy to their App.
The brief (bare in mind, there is no wrong answer at this stage):
LA Lakers have requested a mobile solution to engage fans between games and while games are going on - especially in the time between the four periods of the games.
They are targeting young affluent lakers fans based all over the US. The aim is to help turn casual fans into super fans through connection with the players and improved emotional engagement while the games are going on.
Here is my "WHY - The step before the UI" reason.
Enjoy.

My team is developing a mobile app called "What's the Score" to help 11-15 year olds and their parents stop arguing over football match predictions and player transfers. The app allows users to make predictions with friends and family, track scores and points, and see who was right. Interviews found that people liked the idea but had some concerns about it relating to gambling. The app flows intuitively between screens and links to Facebook for sharing predictions. It relies on public data sources for scores and a database to track predictions. The marketing strategy focuses on word-of-mouth sharing and suggestions when users post about football on connected social media accounts.

The buzz surrounding gamification as an engagement platform is reaching critical mass in our industry with the bulk of attention directed to shallow, superficial layers of points & badges but theres more to unlock. Lots more.

Downtown, A Subway Adventure: Using Learning Analytics to Improve the Develop...Ana Rus Cano Moreno
油
In this paper we analyze the process of designing and developing a Serious Game intended to train people with intellectual disabilities in moving around a city using the public transportation system. The first step in our investigation is to understand the cognitive, psychological and motor abilities of our users and their specific needs. Secondly, we translated the characteristics of the players into user requirements, with adapted mechanics to improve the understanding and to increase the probability for the user to be able to carry out the tasks to perform in the video game. Finally, due to the specific characteristics of our final users a Learning Analytics module has been included in the game to collect relevant information about how users are actually playing and to infer how the learning process of every user is occurring. We also discuss the next steps in our research and the future work related with it: design a range of experimental tests to verify the adequacy of the video game as a learning tool for this type of users

The results provide insights to help game developers target the right audiences. A basic recommender system was built using content-based and collaborative filtering recommendations to suggest new games to users.

Looks matter. But do they really help? In design, we often glorify aesthetics, but does making something pretty actually make it more usable? This talk breaks down the psychological battle between visual appeal and functional clarity, exploring how design influences both emotion and cognition.
We'll take you through:
- How composition theory shapes both aesthetics and usability.
- Why visual design is crucial for some products but useless for others.
- The role of cognitive load: real reason users click (or dont).
- How visual triggers manipulate emotions and decision-making.
- The secret to balancing eye candy with functionality to create truly effective design.
Get ready for a mix of psychology, interaction design, and a few hard truths. If you've ever wondered whether you should lean into visuals or focus on usabilitythis talk will help you decide.

INTRODUCTION
This portfolio is a display of my UX/UI design work over the past 18
months. Included are three projects from a class I took in Spring 2014
called Human/Computer Interaction. The first two explore mobile/
web applications and the third is a presentation about feedback and
its role in microinteractions. The other project is a freelance project
I completed for Rowan Technology in Winter 2015 which is an iBook
devotional for Holy Week 2015. This work demonstrates my iterative
design process from research to final visual design.
THE TOOLS

What do you think of when you hear the word energy?
What gives you energy?
What is revolution to you?
What is something that you would transform in todays athletic
society?
How often do you exercise?
What is your motivation to exercise?
How do you feel after being physically active?
Do you like to play sports? If so, which ones and how often do you play?
Do you wish there were more opportunities to play this sport? If so,

Project Brief:
Design
Develop a user-centered process for a food delivery service for your selected
establishment utilizing a flying robot (aka Drone). This should be a simple app
for a smart phone.
Break it down
Map the Triggers, Rules, Feedback and Loops & Modes for your app. Capture
this however you wish, but something visual along with a narrative (or bullets,
etc) is desired.
Features
Make sure your design allows for the following things:
Able to select one or many food items for delivery
Add special instructions to the order (hold the mayo, etc)
Choose a location for delivery
Contact customer service
Pay for order through the app (credit card, etc)
Cancel order
Handling errors for delivery problems
