Vacation Gone Wrong! By Sarah Shantz
The Plan . . . It was summertime, and school was out for the holidays. Sam was excited because his family was going on vacation for the first time he could remember. They were going to Las Vegas!
The Mission . . . Sam and his family went to the airport to catch the plane. But, as the boarding call sounded, Sam’s mother had to use the washroom. Sam and his father went ahead and boarded the plane. Sam and his father sat in their seats and waited, and waited, and waited. “Where is she?” Sam’s father decided to go find his mother while Sam waited on the plane.
The Problem . . . Sam was tired, so he dozed for a while. “Fasten your seatbelts!” blared over the loudspeakers. Sam woke up and looked around. Neither of his parents was there! The plane roared down the runway as Sam yelled, “Stop!” He was trapped on the plane by himself!
The Effect . . . The flight attendant came over to see what was wrong. “Oh no! You can’t go to Las Vegas by yourself! But we can’t go back now—we’re in the air!” Sam was scared. What would they do? Aaaagh!! Disaster! Chaos!
The Confusion . . . Soon there were three flight attendants around Sam, trying to figure out what to do. A tear slid down his face—what had happened to his parents and their lovely vacation?
The Dilemma . . . The airplane crew radioed the airport, wondering what happened to Sam’s parents. His mother had been sick, and his parents missed the flight. But what to do with Sam?
The Solution . . . The airplane staff thought and thought. They decided that Sam’s parents would have to come on the next flight. He would be alone for 5 hours in Las Vegas airport! Alone in Las Vegas! Vegas Vacation Parents
The Letdown . . . Sam was excited with this newfound freedom. But he wasn’t so excited when the plane landed and the flight attendants took him to an office and gave him some colouring books. “Some vacation!” he snuffed.
The Anticlimax . . . After so long on the plane worrying about his parents, the last thing Sam wanted to do was sit and colour. He put his head down and was soon fast asleep. ZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZZ
The Relief Sam awoke with his father shaking his shoulder. He gave his parents a big hug of relief—he was no longer alone in Las Vegas. Sam and his parents wandered out of the airport, ready to explore the city.
