According to a survey by Brand Keys, Americans plan to celebrate Valentine's Day in 2010 with lower spending than in 2009 due to economic concerns. The average consumer plans to spend $103, down 5% from 2009. While 93% still plan to celebrate, gifts will be smaller and less expensive options like cards, candy, and dinners instead of jewelry or gift cards. Many respondents said they plan to celebrate at home instead of going out. Overall, celebrations will have a quieter, more intimate feel as people focus on spending time with loved ones rather than lavish material gifts in the current economy.
