Windows Server 2008 includes features such as Active Directory, FailOver Clustering, Self-healing NTFS, and Hyper-V. It allows for centralized management of computers and deployment of applications. Server roles and features can continue running with little downtime, and administrators can test clusters of servers. The operating system includes mechanisms for background repair of data structures without taking servers offline, and for partitioning physical servers into virtual computational partitions. It also provides resource management capabilities to control user and process usage based on business priorities.
