Welding has a long history dating back to 4000 BC. This thesis examines the development of layered magnesium-titanium composite materials for biomedical applications. The layered composites were produced using metal injection molding. Different samples were fabricated including composites with flat and rough titanium layers, and sintered at various times. The microstructure, density, porosity and mechanical properties of the samples were characterized using optical microscopy, SEM, density measurements and a three-point bending test. The results provide information on the effect of processing parameters and titanium surface morphology on the interface between the magnesium and titanium layers in the composite materials.
This literature review summarizes research on creating superhydrophobic self-cleaning surfaces using electrospinning. Electrospinning can produce nanofiber mats with the required surface morphology for superhydrophobicity. The electrospinning parameters that impact fiber morphology are discussed. Modifications to the electrospinning process to increase productivity and material versatility are also covered. Specifically, the review examines using electrospinning to create superhydrophobic polystyrene webs by varying the solvent composition, and explores adding polyaniline and ionic liquid to enhance the properties of the polystyrene fibers.
