The document provides an overview of voice assistants and smart speakers. It discusses the adoption of smart speakers in the US, the most common voice assistants like Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant. It then covers smart speakers from Amazon, Google, Apple and others. Key use cases are discussed like functionality, replacing other devices, frequency of use, smart home control. Inspiration and future directions are also presented around privacy concerns, entertainment, social aspects, autonomous vehicles and more.
The document discusses key considerations for implementing a successful digital asset management (DAM) system. It covers best practices for metadata, search, governance, and maintenance of digital assets. Metadata is important for organizing assets and should use controlled vocabularies and fields. Search requires assets be well-tagged so users can easily find them. Governance determines user access levels and permissions. Regular maintenance such as audits and user training helps optimize the DAM system.
This document discusses how data can be used creatively. It provides examples of how large tech companies like Facebook and Google collect vast amounts of data on users' online activities and characteristics to target ads. While some data, like pre-roll video ads, is often ignored, data can reveal insights about customer preferences when analyzed. The document advocates that data should not be an end in itself but can inspire new ideas and stories to enhance user experiences. It also presents some healthcare statistics demonstrating how data trends over time can inform strategies. The overall message is that data is not just information but can be leveraged for creativity when understood in the right context.

It notes that over 60% of Americans now participate in digital activities away from home, and activities like listening to podcasts and watching online videos have increased significantly. It also discusses the rise of Web 2.0 technologies like social media that enable collaboration and user-generated content. Both adult and teen gaming is also on the rise. The document questions whether libraries are keeping up with these trends, and urges libraries to embrace new technologies, be aware of emerging opportunities, and collaborate in order to remain relevant to users.

Functional Resonance Analysis Method based- Decision Support tool for Urban T...Paolo Nesi
油
Today, managing critical infrastructure resilience in smart city is a challenge that can be undertaken by adopting a new class of smart tools, which are able to integrate modeling capability with evidence driven decision support. The Resilience Decision Support tool, as presented in this article, is an innovative and powerful tool that aims at managing critical infrasctructure resilience through a more complex and expressive model based on the Functional Resonance Analysis Method and through the connection of such a model with a system thinking based decision support tool exploiting smart city data. Thanks to ResilienceDS, FRAM model becomes computable and the functional variability that is at the core of the resilience analysis can be quantified. Such quantification allows the decision support tool to compute specific strategies and recommendations for variability dampening at strategic, tactic and operational stage. The solution has been developed in the context of RESOLUTE H2020 project of the European Commission. The document discusses the evolution of e/m/s-commerce and social commerce in the digital age. It notes that social media traffic now exceeds email traffic, with Facebook being a major source of traffic. Social networks allow for new forms of social commerce through user reviews, recommendations, and user-generated content. Mobile commerce is also growing rapidly, with many consumers actively using their mobile devices to research purchases and find promotional offers. The document advocates for a more contextual and modal approach to digital commerce that recognizes customers are no longer confined to computers and that information is ubiquitous.
Formal Methods: Whence and Whither? [Martin Fr辰nzle Festkolloquium, 2025]Jonathan Bowen
油
Alan Turing arguably wrote the first paper on formal methods 75 years ago. Since then, there have been claims and counterclaims about formal methods. Tool development has been slow but aided by Moores Law with the increasing power of computers. Although formal methods are not widespread in practical usage at a heavyweight level, their influence as crept into software engineering practice to the extent that they are no longer necessarily called formal methods in their use. In addition, in areas where safety and security are important, with the increasing use of computers in such applications, formal methods are a viable way to improve the reliability of such software-based systems. Their use in hardware where a mistake can be very costly is also important. This talk explores the journey of formal methods to the present day and speculates on future directions.
