This 3-day course held September 7-9, 2012 at Camp Atterbury is designed for chief officers and future leaders of volunteer fire departments. It will cover developing recruiting and training plans, standard operating procedures, command during fireground operations, grant writing, and leadership. The first 24 students to register and pay the $35 fee by August 15 will secure a spot. Students must be certified firefighters, bring a laptop and photos of buildings from their district, and participate in two webinars. Lodging and meals are provided.

This course is designed specifically for the Chief Officer or those who desire to be a Chief Officer of a fire department
staffed primarily with volunteers. Students who attend must meet criteria before registering to attend this course. The Fire
Chief who registers for this course is encouraged to bring one of the future leaders of their organization to this seminar.
The contents of the program include:
Developing a recruiting plan.
Developing a strategic training plan for your fire department.
The value of standard operating procedures/guidelines and how to develop SOP/SOG's.
Command and Control with Limited Staffing during fireground operations / developing training simulations.
Grant writing techniques.
Leadership development.
Coaching.
Where: This course will be conducted at the Search and Rescue Academy at Camp Atterbury in Edinburgh, IN.
**The first 24 students who register and pay the registration fee will be secured a spot for this training program.**
Student Expectations:
- Certified as a Fire Fighter I/II.
- Register to attend this course by August 15, 2012.
- Must register using the indianafirefightertraining.com registration portal.
- Bring a laptop computer to the training site.
- Attend a webinar on August 29, 2012 at 7:00pm.
- Attend a webinar on September 5, 2012 at 7:00pm.
2. Students must bring pictures of 2 buildings in their response district. Pictures shall be taken during the daytime hours. The
pictures shall include a view of each side of the structure. Interior pictures are optional. These will be used during the
simulation development.
Cost to Attend
$35.00 payable to the Indiana Volunteer Fire Fighters Association. Check/Credit Card/Purchase Order must be executed
by August 15, 2012.
Lodging
The Indiana Fire Fighter Training System will provide barrack style lodging facilities for 24 students. Students will need to
bring sleeping bag or bedding, pillow and toiletries for showering.
Disclaimer
There is no overtime or backfill eligible for attendees of this course.
