- 4. 4 Despite the fact Android monopolizes the devices market (with up to 80% of the market share), iOS applications still are the most used. A study by Adobe* shows that 2/3 of the apps launched are iOS apps. And users spend twice as much time on iOS apps than on Android apps. This study confirms that iOS is still the luxury side of the smartphones market: iOS applications are better shaped, more responsive, easier to use than Android applications. This is probably mainly because developing an iOS app is more profitable than an Android app (because Apple users are more ready to pay to their apps). Android managed to dominate the smartphone market by the number of devices, but they don’t seem to have found the proper ecosystem for apps yet. This is not so surprising, as digital wallets make online payment w/ a smartphone very easy – vs. entering the credit card information. This is where Apple Pay may soon become a winning digital wallet provider: it fully integrates with iOS devices, it allows one-click payment thanks to Touch ID technology (fingerprint recognition) and it defaults to the credit card users have to enter anyway to activate their device (but allows for other credit cards, using passbook). - 8. 8 Apple managed to become its own competitor when it comes to selling tablets. The makers of Pocket, the app that lets user read (or watch) content offline, have released an infographic that shows the time their users spend on an iPhone versus the time they spend on an iPad. The main reason, as this graphic suggests, is that the bigger the iPhone screen becomes, the more it’s a threat for the iPad. The decline of the iPad sales is not new, and with the increasing smartphones screen dimensions, it is unlikely to change – unless maybe the tablet gets a feature that smartphones cannot provide.
