Introduction
 Before shipping, warehouse picking
consists of collecting products from a
rack or container and relocating them to a
packaging area.
 Choosing the correct solution for your
company can simply result in yearly labor

 Picking techniques must be carefully chosen by facility business owners and
managers, as they can make or break warehouse efficiency.
 The size of the warehouse, the affordability of financial and human
resources, the numbers of SKUs in stock, and the quantity and probability of

technique implemented.

 Doesnt scale well
Zone Picking
PROS
 Pickers acquire in-depth
expertise of a single product or
picking location.
 Minimizes travel time
 Only zones with SKUs in the
order move with the order.
CONS
 Additional conveyance is
particularly needed to improve
the effectiveness.
 Inflexible on minimum staffing
 Picker knowledge that is
segregated can produce
scheduling issues.
Batch Picking
PROS
 Great for orders with high similarity
 Pairs well with voice/light picking
solutions
 Reduces travel time
 Low labor time per order
 Ideal for orders with a high volume
of small items and/or low SKU
counts.
CONS
 Not flexible enough for hot
orders
 Requires extra touchpoints
 Hard to optimize without a WMS
 May require dedicated prep area
 Larger items or orders with a
high number of SKUs are not
recommended.
