2. Water is the existence and the essence of Istanbul.
From the water and through it, it was born.
It gave the power, lost and then regained.
Through the water Istanbul fed on other civilizations repaying them with its intelligence and beauties.
In its lack of water within the walls, it found genius and development.
As thought the water seeps and springs, escapes and disappears.
It gives growth and death.
Like the tears of love it joins together and separates.

5. THE SITE-SPECIC ART INSTALLATION
With the aim to enrich the dialogue between the different historical and cultural identities of Italy and Turkey, the Italian
Institute of Culture in Istanbul will include a site-specific installation of contemporary art in its year 2013 program.
The Italian Institute of Culture in Istanbul has invited Angelo Bucarelli, a well-known Roman artist whose work unites meaning
and aesthetics, to produce this project. The artist, through his work will investigate the soul and identities of the location and
its surroundings. Using great sensibility and intense communication modes Bucarelli manages to create visually powerful
sculptures that tell stories of places, personal histories and collective memories.
Angelo Bucarelli, fascinated by historical and evocative values, has chosen to place his installation in the ruins of the oldest
hamam of Istanbul, K端巽端k Mustafa Paa, in Cibali, Fatih, on the southern shore of the Golden Horn.
In this work Bucarelli refines the expositive methodology through which he investigates the identity of the cities and territories
of the cultures he encounters, by isolating the word and its visual associations. For his Istanbul installation, Bucarelli explores
the theme of water as the foundation of the identity of Constantinople-Byzantium-Istanbul. The chosen title for his work echoes
a verse by Tursun Bey, historian and poet of the fifteenth century and author of Conquest of Constantinople.
The installation values (and, in turn, is valued by) Turkish local artisans and its tradition with crafts in iron, fabric, glass,
embroidery supplemented by photography and technology. The works vivacious colors and the eloquent silence will create an
intimate, yet spectacular, counterpoint to the ancient walls and spicy scents of eastern markets.
The installation is supported by Turkish and Italian Institutions. It will be documented by an illustrated catalogue with
institutional and critics texts.
"Water. Like tears of love" will open with an important event, enriched by an exclusive cultural weekend program tailored to fit
the needs of the participating guests. This selected group of people includes representatives of institutions, culture, industry,
as well as opinion leaders from Istanbul and all over the world. The opening will be followed by a dinner in the streets of Cibali.

Fatih Sultan Mehmet, 24 years after the conquer of Byzantium by the Ottomans, it is the Istanbul most antic hamam and the
largest hamam dome. The district of Cibali, part of Fatih, is the oldest part of Istanbul between the Sultanhamet (tourism
historical district) and the byzantine walls just a few steps from the southern cost of the Golden Horn. Cibali, Fatih, e Balat are
neighborhoods full of authenticity, subjects of rediscovery and restoration and revitalization projects.
8. ANGELO BUCARELLI
Eclectic and versatile, Angelo Bucarelli joined the roman artistic world of the early Seventies dividing his time between
photography, sculpture, conceptual art and cinema working, among other things, assisting Claude Lelouche and Federico Fellini.
In 1978 he had his first solo exhibition in Rome at Carola Barbatos Art Gallery Pan. Afterwards, he experimented with other ways
of artistic expression, such as graphics, realization of numerous publications, including art catalogues and illustrated books. The
most famous being the inflatable plastic book, Libidine.
In 1981 Bucarelli moved to New York where he became part of the cultural environment and worked next to important artists such
as Richard Poussete Dart, Arman, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Beverly Peppers and Larry Rivers. He was also the art director of Artforum
International, the art magazine of New York, as well as curator of many projects and exhibitions.
Based back in Rome, yet extensively traveling around the world, Bucarelli spends his time working as an artist, as well as curating
exhibitions and organizing cultural events.
Within his artistic activity, since 2000, he focuses on conceptual sculpture, investigating the values of language, communication
and identity, by isolating the word and its visual associations. Using materials such as iron, bronze, copper and aluminum,
supplemented by photography, Bucarelli creates tridimensional works that inquire about identity and the evocative strength of
words. For his exhibitions/installations he chooses places filled with soul and meaning in order to create an intense dialogue that,
witness of experience, serves as a foundation for the evolution of the future.
Angelo Bucarelli says about his work: The word and its code (written language) are the base of knowledge and understanding. It
is for this matter that in my work the word has become as important, as knowledge itself is vital for the understanding of its codes.
Each word encloses memory, emotion, experience, imagination, hope and other values that themselves relate to the values that
form our identity and the way in which we confront and accept them.Through my work I want to create a space where cultural
paths meet imagination. Knowledge or ignorance. Immediacy or reflection. Conflict or Tolerance."
