SCENE SAFETY
PFD¡¯s must be worn if within 10¡¯ of water
No firefighter turnout gear within 10¡¯ of water
Set up RIT when staffing becomes available
Highest level personal & boat
Keep unnecessary people out of Warm & Hot
zones
To safety stop operations one long whistle blast
SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT
For rescue staff
Personnel flotation device
(PFD) Type III or V
Thermal protection
(Wet or Dry suit)
Water rescue helmet
Knife
Whistle
Contamination protection

WITNESS INTERVIEWS
Secure witnesses using additional personnel or
Law Enforcement
Keep witness on scene for interview
Provide medical assistance if necessary
Gather basic information from witness
Use trained interviewers (Law Enforcement)
Obtain witness ID
Name, address, phone number
FAMILY MEMBERS IF PRESENT
Emotional stability
Keep contained in area & away from others
Keep liaison with them
Keep them informed of operations
May be emotional
DRONES
Easily carried in small vehicle
Most can be hand carried to remote site
Has many of the same advantages of a
helicopter
L/Z TO PILOT COMMUNICATIONS
Ground frequency should be included in flight
request
Many helicopters may have limited
preprogramed frequencies & not easily
changed
Restrict radio communications on L/Z to pilot
frequency
Frequency used should be included in preplans
