? THE TOTAL LIVE STORAGE OF ALL THE 4 DAMS IS AROUND
30 TMC
? THE TOTAL WATER SUPPLIED TO THE CITY IS AROUND 14.5
TMC (1250 MLD ) AROUND 70 % OF THE TOTAL
REQUIREMENT OF THE CITY IS FULFILLED THROUGH CLOSED
CONDUIT OF 3000 mm Dia, 30% OF THE TOTAL
REQUIREMENT OF THE CITY IS FULFILLED THROUGH OPEN
CANAL.

PRIVATE SECTOR PARTICIPATION IN WATER SUPPLY
The PMC presently adopting private sector participation in a
number of activities, the most important of which are the
ones described as below-
- Designs
The design and detailed engineering proposals of most of the
major projects in water, waste water and storm water
drainage are prepared with the help of specialised
consultants in these fields.
- Surveys and Investigations
Topographic surveys and geotechnical investigations are
conducted by agencies having the equipment with new
technologies.
- Construction
Major projects are implemented using the services of the
qualified contractors, specialising in various areas such as
Pipelines, water treatment plants and pump stations.
- Supervision and Quality Control and Quality Assurance
The project management consultants are appointed for
ensuring the quality of the works and close monitoring of
the progress, to ensure speedy implementation.
- Operation and Maintenance
PMC is using the services of private agencies for
operation and maintenance of some of the components
of the water supply system, such as Pump stations.
In the recently planned and on-going water treatment
plants, the operation and maintenance for a period of
five years is included in the works contract.
