Ways to Predict Tides
Occurrence
Using the Calendar
Knowing how to predict the tide occurrence
gives many advantages to people especially to
fisher folks. They can know in advance when it
is best to fish which results to a very good
catch. Also, it also warns them when it is going
to have a very high tide so that they can
prepare.

Spring tides
Spring tides occur during the full
moon and the new moon. At
these times, the high tides are
very high and the low tides
are very low because the gravitational
pull of the moon and sun
are combined.
Neap tide
Neap tides occur when the gravitational
forces of the moon and the sun are
perpendicular to one another (with respect
to the earth)or at right angles, causing the
bulges to cancel each other. The result is a
smaller difference between high and
low tides and is known as a neap tide.

Effects of High tides
High tides can cause a lot of trouble to the
people living in low-lying and coastal
communities especially those living close to
sea because their houses can be flooded and
damage their fish businesses.
Effects of Low tides
Fishermen do not usually fish when it is low
tide because the water is too far from the
shore and fishes are farther.
Also, it is hard for seafarers to dock their ship
near the shore.
How to predict when
the next major phase
of the moon will occur
What is the meaning of prediction
anyway?
Prediction is the making of a statement or
forming of an opinion about what will happen
in the future.
Step 1:
Add seven days from the last major phase in
a particular month.

Step 2:
Add again seven days to get the next major
moon phase. Predictions are not always exact
but its okay as long as it is within the area.

Again, add seven days to get the next major
phase.

Add seven days again to get the prediction of
the next major moon phase.

Ways to predict tide occurrence using the calendar
Example
For example, the date of the New Moon Phase
is November 6 . Count 14 days, so, its
November 20. Then, add the date of the New
Moon Phase by the number obtained
(20+6=26). After that, divide 26 by 2, answer
is 13. That is when the 1st Quarter phase will
occur.
