We Are Not Alone – God Is Here Leading Us.
Sometimes things that go on around us make us feel alone, stranded, and defeated. I ran across a story today that refreshed my
soul, and I hope it does the same for you.
Hey, if you aren’t a Christian, that’s OK – this is a great Bible story for anyone needing or looking for a bit of encouragement.
And, I don’t expect everyone to read, or even agree with everything I write.
I happen to have deep seeded Christian convictions,so my faith comes out quite often in my writing and speaking. So, today I
wanted to encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ in the midst of what seems like the world collapsing around us.
So let me encourage you…
God is there, even though you can’t see Him.
You know, most of what goes on in the universe, we never see. I’m not talking about hummingbird wings, caterpillar mouths, or
the eyes of a fruit fly.
We simply have limited ability to see and understand what’s going on in the spiritual realm. Since we really can’t see, we often
feel alone and afraid of where life might be taking us. The good news is, God is at work all around us – working on things that are
more wonderful than we could ever imagine.
We can’t see it, but it’s happening.
Elisha is one of the few in history who got a glimpse behind the scenes.
Don’t Be Afraid.
Elisha had been thwarting the Arameans’ attempts to attack the Israelites by giving up their plans to the King of Israel. The King
of Aram was so enraged, he sent an army to surround Elisha and capture him. When his servant got up and discovered their plight,
he was terrified…who can blame him – he was likely collateral damage in this attack.
Elisha told him, “Don’t be afraid. Those who are withus are more than those who are with
them.” Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes so he may see.” Then the Lord opened
the servant’s eyes and he saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
-2 Kings 6:16-17
He and Elisha actually got to see the supernaturalwork that God was doing! God had sent an army to fight on their behalf!
In times like these, fear makes us feel helpless and alone. We feel like all things are working against us, and we are losing to the
enemy.
God is Greater and Will Overcome! Trust Him…
Remember, His spirit is greater than any worldly power, or anything we perceive to be our enemy. John reminds us,“You, dear
children, are from God and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” -1 John 4:4.
The difficult circumstances, and the evil we see surrounding us can get discouraging.I have been feeling it too! But remember no t
to focus on the evil we can see, and instead, think about the good work God is doing that we cannot see.
I think David had the right idea:
“Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence. I am still con fident of
this: I will see the goodness ofthe Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
-Psalm 27:12-14
