• An event can be described as a public assembly for the purpose of
celebration, education, marketing or reunion, funerals.
• Event management is the application of project management to the
creation and development of large scale events such as festivals,
conferences, ceremonies, formal parties, concerts, or conventions
according to Wikipedia

SKILLS OF EVENT MANAGERS
Planning events Professionally require certain skill sets.
Some of the key skills involved in truly great event management are:
1. Attention to details (are you a ‘completer/finisher’?)
2. Creativity (not just in designing the ‘look and feel’ but also in how to
get round the inevitable problems)
3. Planning and rehearsal (plan, plan, plan…rehearse, rehearse and
rehearse)

4. Multitasking (one minute you may be booking fresh flowers the next
talking to the CEO of a global corporate)
5.Budgeting (keeping the ship tight, delivering within budget, negotiating
with suppliers, managing excel spreadsheets…all the time)
6.Team player (you will be working with or managing a team without
whom your event will crack and fall)
7.People skills (are you good in front of clients, do people like working
with/for you? Will they go the extra mile for you? Will they want to hire
you again?)
