This document is a summary of a science WebQuest for 6th grade students about pollution. The WebQuest guides students through learning about pollution and how it affects the environment. It then teaches students about reducing, reusing and recycling (3Rs) to help address pollution problems. Students work in groups to create a poster about a pollution problem and solution using one of the 3Rs. They then evaluate each other's posters. In the conclusion, students are congratulated on learning how individual actions can help address pollution and protect the environment.

INTRODUCTION Welcome to the Kids-in-action We need your help! Theres a big problem here on Earth and that problem is POLLUTION! How can we stop pollution from destroying the Earth? Join the Kids-in-action and find out how you can reduce, reuse, and recycle to help make our planet a healthy place to live . Without your help, Mother Earth will perish, if enough people know and care, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! BACK NEXT
TASK You will learn and identify what pollution is and how it affects the Earth's air, water, and land. You will visit websites and learn the meaning of reduce, reuse, and recycle (3Rs), and how this helps take care of the Earth. You will create a poster on which you will identify one way pollution affects the Earth and present a solution to the problem using one of the 3Rs. You will do all of this as a group of three. PROCESS Hooray! We're ready to begin! First, let's find out... What is pollution? People, animals, and plants need clean air and water to live. Pollution makes the Earth's air, land, and water dirty. Is this good for the living things on Earth? Think about this question as you watch a video. http://pbskids.org/eekoworld/index.html?load=garbage _recycling You saw what can happen if we pollute the Earth.
Now it's time to learn about the 3 Rs: reduce, reuse, and recycle! Learn about reducing, reusing, and recycling. How can you reduce to help the Earth? Use the links at the resources page about how to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Talk with your Kids-in-action members and think of something you can reuse after reading the webpage. Let's sum it up! First talk with your Kids-in-action members and think of one way to reduce, one way to reuse, and one way to recycle.
Now it's time to tell the world how important it is to Reduce, reuse, and recycle! You and your Kids-in-action members will make a poster to spread the word about the 3Rs. The Kids-in-actionArtist will: Illustrate the poster clearly, colorfully, and neatly. Make sure the picture fills up the paper.
The Kids-in-action Text Master will: Print the written message on the poster, spell all words correctly, and the writing should be clearly and neatly. Make sure the words are easy to read.
The Kids-in-action Manager will: Keep the group working together and help the group stay on task. Share ideas and make thoughtful suggestions to the Artist and Text Master.
Now that you know your roles, it's time to make a poster that tells about a problem facing the Earth that is caused by pollution. Your poster will show a solution to the problem through reducing, reusing, or recycling.
You worked very hard and have an important message to share! When your poster is finished, pass it in to your teacher so it may be hung up for all to see. Now it's time to look at your work and the work of the other Kids- in-action groups! evaluation page.
After your group has read through and understands the table, you will look at all the posters, including your own and assign points to each poster. The teacher will use these to help decide which poster will represent our class. Have fun and talk as a group before you make your choices. Read and follow the criteria for judging at the evaluation page.
