What this means to you is that you must regularly update this fire risk assessment (FRA). By regularly, this normally means on an annual basis or when ever changes are made to the building that may affect this. What is a Fire Risk Assessment? This is an assessment of your premises carried out that covers the following areas: 1. Identifying fire hazards. 2. Identifying people at risk. 3. Evaluating, removing or reducing the risks. 4. Recording findings, preparing an emergency plan and providing training. 5. Reviewing and updating the fire risk assessment regularly. Why do I need a Fire Risk Assessment? It is a legal requirement. There are legislations that require all employers and building owners to carry out a fire risk assessment. It must be carried out by a competent person. If you dont, this is ultimately a breach of legislation and could result in the responsible person receiving a fine or even prison sentence. Who can carry out my Fire Risk Assessment? Whoever you believe is competent, this can be tricky for you to judge. Our best advice is to ask for: 1. Qualifications 2. Experience 3.
