Apple received a lot of reports being criticized by environmentalists. These
reports were due to their poor performance when it comes to recycling

It has almost 17 years since Apple started recycling their old products and

Since 1994, almost 82% of all their Mac and iPod products sold were
recyclable and by the end of 2010, the figure increased dramatically to
93%.

In 2006, Apple reported that they have reprocessed a whopping 13 million
pounds of e-waste, which is equal to 9.5% of the bulk of all products Apple
sold seven years prior to date. Just after a year, this percentage grew by
13% and by 2008, it went up to 20%.

Just last year, it was reported that Apple recycled about 19 million pounds
of e-waste per year, which was nearly 30% of the product weight they
have sold over the last year. All these recycled materials were from the
iPhones, iPods, iPads and Mac computers that were sold, returned and
replaced.

The company knew how raw materials should be handled so during the
end of their recycling process, they were able to hold their recycling
vendors to the "highest environmental standards in the industry."

The company was eager to improve their recycling programs to make
sure that none of its involved parties take wrong turns. They see to it that
everything goes well and everyone is strictly following orders. They meet
all the health and safety laws and they did not permit any use of prison
labor during their recycling procedure.

They carefully chose which materials were to be used in the
manufacturing stage of the products so as to ensure that they are all or
mostly composed of recyclables. They believe that by doing so will
guarantee that the weight of the recycling value of the gadget is greater.

They also had a lot of programs for their customers to take part in. For
example, they launched a campaign for unwanted iPods to be returned
for recycling at more than 150 Apple retail stores. This was done for the
environment and was free of charge.

They offered incentives for customers to get a 10% discount for new iPods
if they will bring their old iPod to their stores for proper disposal and
recycling. During the summer of 2010, they expanded their stores and
have included free shipping outside the borders of U.S. so there will not be
product purchases required for customers to enjoy their take back
programs.

materials that are in high demand from recyclers, Apple is glad to expand
