Medical imaging plays an important role in diagnosing COVID-19 patients, especially those most severely affected. Chest radiographs should be the first-line imaging tool, while chest CT should only be used for critically ill patients or when chest radiographs are inconclusive. As radiographers work on the frontlines, they need to be aware of COVID-19 risks and engage in strategies to reduce risks like using personal protective equipment. Radiography practices must adjust to recommendations like limiting medical imaging to critically ill patients and adopting protocols for low dose CT and infection control to safely diagnose COVID-19 while reducing radiation exposure and infection risks for radiology departments.
