Editor's Notes

  • #3: Wing. A view from the 22nd floor.
  • #4: A hallway with customizable lighting.
  • #5: One of our conference rooms, looking south from the 25th floor.
  • #6: From the 34th Street tenant¡¯s entrance.
  • #7: From 5th Avenue main entrance.
  • #8: From the days when office workers "mailed" "letters." Now just a preserved relic of the Empire State Building. Until a recent facelift, these were hidden in hall closets. They might still be functional -- embedded mail boxes remain in service in the lobby -- but I'd only risk a postcard to myself to prove it.
  • #9: I work at the Empire State Building, and so do these guys, and there's nothing you could pay me to do what they do.
  • #10: It was photo shoot day. What¡¯s it all about? You¡¯ll know soon enough.
  • #11: Our reception area: The fishbowl-like conference rooms provide lots of natural light.
  • #12: I'm lucky to be on a floor with a terrace, and found myself out on it one day (Shhhhhh ...). This is a rare perspective from outside on the 25th floor, looking up.
  • #13: Every sunset is wonderful, but some are more wonderful than others.
  • #15: The money shot: ESB¡¯s visitor lobby
  • #17: The edit team¡¯s conference room, as seen from our standup area
  • #18: Reception area, 25th floor
  • #19: A corner office for everyone.
  • #20: How foggy was it? You couldn¡¯t see New Jersey.
  • #21: Lonely Chairs.
  • #22: Our latest perc (sorry for the bad pun): pour over coffee
  • #23: This is a #BlastFromThePast: An old workspace when the edit team was smaller. There's something about workers outside, 25 stories in the air.
  • #24: It was stormy today, but not as stormy as this day, which almost looked like tornadoes in the distance (they weren't)
  • #25: OK, I'm a little obsessed with fog. Sue me.
  • #26: From the Empire State Building¡¯s 86th Floor Observation Deck
  • #27: Across from the money shot in the lobby
  • #28: Another view of the newsroom, starring Maya (L) and Dan Mills (R)
  • #29: Yes, we have a mini theater and yes, we have a Playstation.
  • #30: True.
  • #31: It¡¯s been a while. But if you spot me a couple of balls I¡¯ll try not to embarrass myself.
