This document discusses white blood cells (WBCs), including their normal counts in healthy individuals and morphologic characteristics. It describes the two main types of blast cells - myeloblasts and lymphoblasts - and their features. The normal ranges of total WBC count and differential leukocyte count are provided for various age groups. Details are given on the morphology, normal function, and pathologic variations of the different types of WBCs: polymorphonuclear leukocytes, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils. Common causes of increased or decreased counts are listed for each type.
