Who would be the audience for
your media product?
Tamira Bello
My primary target audience for my media
product is 16-25 year olds
I chose this audience as I believe they would be
much more interested in my media product than
older or younger people as people of this age
are more likely to be able to relate to the issues
of drug abuse and crime
Primary research
Results
The majority of the people who filled this questionnaire were 16-20
years old.
The three issues that they were interested in was drug abuse, violence
and social class and status.
The four themes that they were most interested in was Age, Physical
Ability/Disability, Class and status and Ethnicity
Secondary Research
I undertook some secondary research into the
statistics of drug abuse and found out that:
Young adults (those aged 16 to 24) were more
likely to have used drugs in the last year than older
adults. However, the proportion of adults aged 16
to 24 taking any drug in the last year was 16.3%,
down from 19.3% in 2011/12.
The proportion of adults aged 16 to 24 taking any
drug in the last year was almost double the
proportion in the 16 to 59 age group, at 16.3%.

I considered the results of my quantitative questionnaire
and came to conclusions to what I would like my intros

decision on my target audience.

Channels that screen social realism
BBC 2
Usually caters to an older audience and screens
documentaries regularly
BBC 4
Also screens documentaries but caters to an even older
audience than BBC2 as the documentaries are on more
serious things like history
FILM 4
Caters for all ages as it shows a variety of different movies
aimed at different ages. The content and genres of the
movies vary depending on the time of day
Radio shows that explore social
realism
 BBC radio 3
 BBC radio 4
Have spoken about the social realism genre
This may mean I can use these radio channels to
promote my film, even though my target audience are
not the usual viewers of this radio programme.
Sight and Sound
 Sight and sound magazine
is an international film
magazine
 They advertise the movies
 Have interviews
If a film is advertised in this
magazine it is more likely to
be targeted towards
mature people with a wide
range of film knowledge. As
it is niche and not
mainstream younger teens
would be less likely to be
reading it.
