Bryn Mawr would be an ideal fit for the author for several reasons: 1) She comes from a family of strong, independent women and Bryn Mawr's all-women environment would allow her to develop these same qualities and grow into the kind of woman she aspires to be. 2) Academically, Bryn Mawr excels with opportunities for hands-on learning through its low student-faculty ratio and research prospects across departments. 3) Socially and culturally, Bryn Mawr offers clubs matching the author's interests as well as traditions building a sense of community and family away from home.

Bryn Mawr and I
When I was eleven years old, my dad had a conversation with me about the kind of woman I should
grow up to be.He told me that I should be strong, independent, and focused on my work (but know
how to have a good time);and, he added that milestones like marriage and career would fall into
place once I formed the bed-rock of my personality. My mother is a living example of that kind of
woman, as are my aunts, my grandmothers, and my older cousins. I come from a family of strongwilled, enterprising, resourceful women, and I intend to continue that tradition. And it is for this very
reason that I believe Bryn Mawr is the place for me.
While the all-women environment is something I was initially apprehensive about, I realized after
the conversation withMs Russell thatitis this aspect of the environment makes Bryn Mawr unique! It
allows for a more open atmosphere, where a woman isn’t afraid of expressing herself completely.It
would allow me to grow into just the kind of woman I see myself becoming. Bryn Mawr would help
form that strength that we, as members of the female community, need to survive and thrive in the
male dominated world.However, I am excited by the Haverford-Bryn Mawr connection, which
allowsfor interactions with boys on campus, classes (and in dorms, I’ve heard!). And all this is just
about the environment.
When it comes to academics, Bryn Mawr is amongst the leaders in providing quality education. The
8:1 student faculty ratio guarantees an involved, hands-on approach and close interpersonal
relationships between professors and students. Bryn Mawr is brimming with exciting research
prospects for each of the academic areas I want to explore. Be it the Tarsus Regional Project to
investigate the GozlüKüle mound at Tarsus, undertaken by the Department of Classical and Near
Eastern Archaeology, or the number of literary contests held for all kinds of writing- poetry, fiction,
creative nonfiction- there a number of opportunities to enhance my learning experience. In addition,
the Haverford-Bryn Mawr connection is something I will take full advantage of academically as well,
because of my desire to major in Neurosciences.
As far as interests outside the classroom go, Bryn Mawr has enough to offer,even to someone like
me, with a long and diverse checklist. The Fall Student Dance Concert and Mayuri, Click
Photography, Culinary Club – there’s a club for everything I want to do!
Coming from India, where traditions and values play a huge part of our lives, traditions at Bryn
Mawr- Parade Night, Lantern Night, Hell Week, May Day and more- add up to form that community
and familial atmosphere that is rare, if not totally absent in most colleges today.
And that is the ultimate clincher. Why I love Bryn Mawr the most is that I know I will find a home
away from home there. I will find a family and place to grow and transition into a confident young
woman equipped with both a repertoire of skills that combine my various academic interests and
the all-important life skills needed to lay the foundation for a successful career and life.
