Who is Janet Sutherland
Janet Sutherland is a former Chicago radio reporter where she was heard covering Supreme
Court cases, Illinois legislation, health news and prison stories on WMAQ, WLS, WGN, UPI
Radio and 75 plus radio stations on the Illinois and Wisconsin Radio Networks. As a result of
covering breaking news stories; the deadly Plainfield/Lemont Tornado, Joliet Correctional prison
escape, her newsroom was the recipient of AP awards. While a journalist Sutherland wrote an
average of 100 plus news stories per year, some were distributed on AP and UPI wire services
and aired on at least 75 radio stations in the Midwest. Sutherland has also written and produced
cable television public affairs programs. She was also a feature freelance writer for The Daily
Herald and a sports stringer for The Chicago Sun Times. Sutherland has worked in marketing in
print news and has syndicated national radio shows and news networks including CNN, CBS
and Fox. Her marketing background extends into local and national radio as well as cable
television in which she managed a team on the east coast, negotiated major market news
affiliation agreements and oversaw 4 million dollars in marketing campaigns. Sutherland has a
vast political background covering Senators Dick Durbin and Paul Simon, Governor Jim Edgar
and President Clinton. She has crafted multiple state bills for a national non profit, spoken to
members of Congress and has collaborated with state lawmakers on statewide health initiatives.
Sutherland has written and produced a national public service announcement for the Brain
Aneurysm Foundation. The PSA will air over seven thousand radio stations around the country.
