PDHPE¡ Why Do We Teach It?
The role of Australian schools is to educate the future citizens of Australia.
In a country struggling with obesity and inactivity, it is becoming more and more important to provide Australian students with the ¡°knowledge and understanding, skills, values and attitudes that will enable them to lead healthy and fulfilling lives¡± (Personal Development, Health and Physical Education K-6 Syllabus, 2007, p. 05).
PDHPE (Personal Development, Health and Physical Education) is a key player in this mission to create healthy future citizens.
With the help of a strong PDHPE program, students can adopt a responsible and productive role in society (Tinning, R., McCuaig, L., & Hunter, L., 2006).
