The K to 12 curriculum was introduced to further improve the quality of basic education in the Philippines by enabling students to better master core competencies. National Achievement Test results from 2005 to 2010 showed that many students who completed basic education lacked sufficient mastery of basic skills. The end goal of the new K to 12 system is to address this issue and help more students develop competency in key areas.
