Wood properties Wood has not fixed properties. Even pieces from the same tree are different . We will study general properties of wood, those that influences in its applications. 09/04/10 J.M.F.
1 ¨C Density. Density is the relationship between the mass and the volume of a piece of wood. Usually, all kinds of woods are lighter than water; that¡¯s why they float on water 09/04/10 J.M.F.
2 ¨C Hardness. Hardness is the opposition that a given material has to be scratched by other harder material. Wood hardness depends on its water content. 09/04/10 J.M.F.
3 - Stress strength. Is the most important property when you have to choose a wood for an application. Is the wood capacity to support an effort There are three different efforts Compression Flexion Traction 09/04/10 J.M.F.
