The case study is about a worker at Lumen Automobile Company who suggested improvements to the plant layout to reduce safety issues caused by limited space. The suggestion was initially ignored by management. Years later, a safety incident occurred due to the space constraints, causing a major worker accident. The new labor supervisor communicated the root cause to management as overcrowding, and the worker's previous suggestion was then implemented. The accident could have been prevented if the worker's innovative idea had been considered earlier. This led to disputes between workers and management due to the non-recognition of the worker's idea.

The Case Study is about how a Workers Suggestion for Improvement in Plant Layout was ignored by top management and how this later ended in a dispute situation. The suggestion was initially ignored. Few years after this, with day to day increasing Work Pressure and Space constraints, there was a safety incident inside the factory , leading to someones Major Accident. The company fired the existing labour supervisor and hired a new one. The new Supervisor communicated the root cause of the Safety Accident to the top management as his suggestions to reduce the Man~ Machine Interaction was taken up seriously and implemented. Even though the Company has a worker participation in the decision making procedure, the Operators innovative idea was not taken into consideration and later the New Operators idea was welcomed. The Accident could have been prevented and emotional distress due to non recognition of the Operators idea , on time lead to dispute situation. General Environment surrounding the accident lead to a very unproductive and unsafe environment to work for all staff Any suggestions put forward by the workmen should be considered on a priority basis and evaluated. The inputs from the Workmen should be escalated to the Management through proper channels and should be evaluated through various dimensions. The inputs should be assessed on 1. Technical Feasibility 2. Financial Analysis Etc. A review Team shall check the plant condition by Primary Data evaluation on: o Plant layout o Dispatch mechanism o Output levels Using this report the feasibility of the Operators idea should be simulated and evaluate its applicability. The Report file clearly labeled on the Workmans name should be clearly documented in the review Teams Database This would reduce the chances for the disputes among Employees regarding the duplication of ideas. Case Details: Background: M/S Lumen Automobile company manufactures Passenger Cars out of Chennai Plant . The Plant operates at a very high capacity in a really competitive market.
