This document outlines the objectives and agenda of a validation workshop held in Nairobi, Kenya from November 22-25, 2016 to finalize a continental strategy for geographical indications in Africa. The workshop aimed to present and discuss the content of the strategy, with a focus on recommendations and policy frameworks, and validate the strategy at a technical level. It also aimed to launch the design of a 5-year action plan by providing inputs for each outcome of the strategy and drafting an action plan to define ways to move forward. The agenda involved plenary sessions on geographical indications as a sustainable rural development and intellectual property tool, as well as working sessions for participants to provide inputs for the action plan.
