No Mans Land Some men were sent to repair barbed wire Some assigned to listening posts Enemy patrols would run into one another
Fear and Anticipation Must stay lying low Snipers!! Fear of the enemy jumping in to the trench
Trench Conditions Rats! Size of cats Feed on human remains Frogs, lice, slugs, beetles Trench Fever (severe pain + high fever) Trench Foot (fungal infection) Smell (rotting bodies, overflowing latrines, dried sweat, stagnant water, etc.)
Gas Attack Mask must be air tight It irritates/itches the skin Claustrophobic Gas caused the victim to drown from the inside
Daily Routine Clean rifle Chores (refill sand- bags, etc.) Boredom (movement was restricted until night) Read or write letters
