ZASHADU, AN UNIQUE DESIGN
Aesthetic with a nomadic soul, Zainab Ashadu fell in
love for the first time with a leather clutch belonging
to her mother, aged eight. A fascination for the
cut and the material led her to discover the arts,
architecture and fashion, years later at the London
College of Fashion before becoming Art Director at
the African Artists Foundation in Lagos, Nigeria.
A constant journeying between London and Lagos,
and inspired by the apparent dichotomy in her
identity, in 2010, she created Zashadu to open a
new chapter in the history of leather in Africa. Her
desire is to create unique handmade pieces that
represent the beauty of Made in Nigeria.

movement highlights a new perspective in the
leather industry.

Kano, exotic leathers used are chosen by Zashadu
before being handcrafted in the workshop in
Lagos. Zashadu leather highlights the quality of
select tanneries in Nothern Nigeria which was
recognized for thousands of years by its leather,
