Gastrulation is the process by which the three germ layers (endoderm, mesoderm, and ectoderm) form in zebrafish embryos. During this stage, which occurs between 10-12 hours post fertilization, the mesoderm and endoderm layers are established through cell movements like epiboly, involution, and convergence and extension. By 14-16 hours post fertilization, somites begin to form from the paraxial mesoderm as segments that will develop into muscle, bone and dermis.
