Eric is a businessman in his 30s who struggles to wake up on time due to his alarm clock not working effectively. During an interview, Eric expressed frustration with constantly waking up late and not feeling well-rested. The interviewer created an empathy map to understand Eric's perspective and noted that Eric seemed tired, frustrated, and wished his "clock nightmare" would end. The interviewer believes there is an opportunity to create a new alarm clock that can wake heavy sleepers through means other than sound alone and help users start their day in a convenient manner.
2. Ive interviewed a business man named Eric, Eric
is in his mid 30s, hes Asian and worked in a very
successful business. Doing the interview, Eric
constantly complained to me how his alarm clock
never wakes him up. Heres a my Empathy map,
showing what I have picked up doing the
interview.
I hope you enjoy my Empathy map, please feel
free to give me great feedbacks. I will use your
suggestion and feedbacks and includes them in
the future assignments.
3. From what I have interviewed Eric, I dropped
down few interesting quotes.
It is very hard to
wake up with
alarm clocks that
does not help you
at all.
I hope one
day, there's a
perfect alarm for
me
It is so annoying
to wake up late
to work, school
etc.
Im a heavy
sleeper, I hope
there's something
beside noises that
can wake me up.
My sleeping
schedule is not
good enough, I
dont sleep well
enough.
4. This is what I noticed from what Eric was
doing
Eric waved his
arms a lot, I
noticed he was
really frustrated.
Twirling his
thumbs
Actions like
face
palming
His actions
are very
weak
5. This is what I felted in the interview:
Eric was very tired, and
frustrated at the same
time. He wishes his
clock nightmare
finish quickly
I can fee the same with
him, cause I have the
same situation
struggles as him
He
sounded
very sad
I feel sorry for Eric, but also I
feel happy that I have
solution/plan forming in my
head
It might be a hard work,
but it feels really good
after hearing his
struggles and you
know you can help Eric.
6. A solution
that does not
need sound
to wake a
person up
An alarm clock that does
not only wake the user but
also helps them to benefit
A popular alarm
clock, its fun,
useable, and
strongEasy to use not for
students but for
elders too and
disabled people
7. From the very warm interview I had with
Eric, I formed an ultimate problem and as well
as a pre- formed solution.
We need to create a simple alarm clock that
does not just have the sound that helps the
user to wake up but also it will have the
ability to make the users life much more
convenient.
It will just not wake users up, but also it will
help them guide through their day.
8. I realized that Eric does not have a good
hearing in our interview. So Ive thought
waking up Eric not by sound but by action.
Ive also picked up that Eric is a very busy
person from doing his gestures.
