4. KERRANG! Double Page
Spread Analysis:
There are three colours used in this and they are
Black, White and red which link with the artist
that is featured in the magazine as she is usually
photographed wearing these coloured clothes.
The main headline for this double page spread is
Wild Child for the Wild part they have used a
type of font that looks as if it has been scribble
down by someone and it is in red writing where
the word CHILD has been written in large white
block capitals which suggest innocence which is
something that would be expected from a child
and it looks more innocent in contrast to the
redness as red signifies danger. Each question
asked in the interview is distinctively separated
from the answer. The questions are written in red, and are in an increased font to the
answers of the questions which are written in white and at a smaller font.
When it comes to making my own double page spread, I plan to take some ideas from this
one and follow in the same sort of layout as this, as I will have either an artist or a band to
feature that will be in full on one page and then the interview at the side of it.

is present.
The actual contents itself is set out in sub categories, this is to make it easier to
find, which I think they have chosen mainly because they have a younger audience
of 16-19 year olds and they will be able to look out for what interest them the
most and the numbers of the page that they are on are all situated left of the
text/image in red writing to make the stand out.
7. KERRANG! Contents Page
Analysis:
At the very top of the page is the page title with
the issue number and date underneath it, half of
the page has a picture of Bring Me The Horizons
lead singer Ollie Sykes as this is the largest image
on the entire page it suggests that this figure is
the most important out of all the other bands
mentioned in this issue. Also underneath is the
band name supports the idea of it having more
importance over the other bands as larger text is
used for this one, showing that they want it to
stand out more in comparison to the others.
There is also a note in the left corner of the page
from the editor, these notes tend to just be a little
message from them explaining what is in this issue and telling you some information about a
certain band/artist that is feature in the magazine this week then at the end it is signed with
a signature from the editor this creates a personal connection between the editor and the
reader which I think is a nice touch.
10. Comparisons :
These double page spreads are both
from different issues of the same
magazine: NME
One features the singer from The Pretty
Reckless Taylor Momsen, the other
featuring The All American Rejects. As
they are both from the same magazine
they are very similar however as they
are two different bands from a similar but different genre of music the lay out, colour and
design are different in order to attract their own audience. The double page spread with
Taylor Momsen is very dark with a black background, off white text with little bits of bright
red text when they want certain parts to sand out such as the word Wild the colours they
have used relate to the person herself as white represents innocence which is something
she should have as at 17 years old she is still a child however the fact that it is an off white
implies that, that innocence is fading and he innocence is contradicted by the black which
links to sadness and being a dark person and the red signifies danger also the person
herself is also generally photographed wearing clothes these colours, not only in this image
itself but others. In comparison to the Taylor Momsen page this one is colourful and bright
and there is a lot more going on, instead of a dark black background they have gone for a
dark purple and have used colours such as light purple and red not only have they used
these colours for backgrounds and text but also for the clothes that they are wearing which I
think altogether improves the pages appearance. They have also used 1 main image and 4
little images, the main image being 1 of the whole band together then an image of each of
them I think this creates a more personal feel, something for the audience to have with one
of them and to feel as though they are getting to know each member more. Instead of having
the bands name as a title for the double page spread they both have something have words
or a phrase that either describes the person/band or what the interview is like itself.
13. Comparisons
These contents pages are both from
different issues of the same magazine:
KERRANG! However I think if you was to
look at the 2 without the name of the
magazine itself being present then you
wouldnt be able to tell I think one of the
reasons is because this magazine covers a
couple of different music genres. A
similarity between the 2 is that they both use one main image that takes up about a third of
the page however one image shows a band named Bring Me The Horizon whose genre is
metal core/death core and the band in the other image are called We Are The In Crowd
and their genre is pop rock so the colour pictures and layout of the rest of both contents
pages relate to the that genre. As the first one shows images where all the colours used are
dark as the image s they have used have either a grey background or a really dark blue and
the people wear either black, purple or blue where as the other one used light blue, light
pink and bright yellow, altogether the second contents page looks more happy and cheerful
and looks like this issue is for a younger audience this is because of the bands target
audience were as the other one features bands for older people, that wouldnt be attracted
by lots of images and bright colours.
