An international haiku contest was held in Romania in 2008 called "One Thousand Cranes." The contest honored Simona Dobrescu-Craciun of Constanta, Romania with a commendation for her haiku submission. Her haiku was about origami cranes being taken away by the wind as part of a morning prayer. The presentation of the honors was given by Corneliu Traian Atanasiu.
