I grew up in a small resort town in northern Michigan. I have a mom, dad and two older brothers. A number of large, furry and all-around amiable dogs have been our family pets, along with four hamsters and one chameleon.
It was evident early on that I was going to be a tomboy. When I was four years old, I refused to wear the frilly white Easter dress that my mom had purchased for me and spent the holiday in my bedroom.
