Megan experienced a heart attack while on vacation in the Mediterranean. She was evacuated to a larger hospital, where Assist America's coordinators began reviewing her case and monitoring her care. Although Assist America typically has to arrange evacuations, Megan's matched their course of action, so they reimbursed her costs. Assist America also arranged and paid for Megan's business class flight home with a medical escort once she was stable enough to travel, ensuring her safe return to the US.

Heart attack in the Mediterranean
Megan* had traveled with her husband to the Mediterranean
for a romantic vacation. While in a small town on the coast,
however, she began to experience chest pains and difficulty
breathing. She went to a local hospital where it was determined
she was experiencing a heart attack, and should be evacuated
to a hospital in a larger city nearby. The hospital acted quickly to
arrange this mission, leaving Megan and her husband with the
bill.
Upon arrival at the receiving hospital, her husband called Assist
America. Assist Americas coordinators began to review Megans
case and monitor her care. Although Assist America typically
has to make arrangements in order to pay for them, it was
determined that the evacuation followed what would have been
Assist Americas course of action. In the spirit of assistance,
Assist Americas management team decided to reimburse Megan
for the evacuation provided.
They continued to monitor Megans care as a stent was placed and
her condition returned to normal. Once she was fit to travel, Assist
America arranged and paid for her trip home, via business class,
with a medical escort by her side to ensure her condition remained
stable for the duration of the long flight home to the US.
